Search & Notifications in Chat
Find a message, catch a mention, and choose when a conversation should interrupt you.
Search your conversations
Search looks through conversations you are in, not the whole organization.
Open Search. Type a name or a phrase, or add a filter. Search starts once you have typed at least two characters, or as soon as a filter is set.
Results are split in two:
Conversations matches the name, the people, or the latest message. Each row is labeled DM, Group, or Feed.
Messages matches the text of messages in conversations you belong to. Open a result to land on that message.
The matching words are highlighted. If nothing matches, the page says No matches.
Before you type or filter, the page says Search messages, with the hint to type a name or phrase, or add a filter.
Narrow a search
Filters can be used on their own, or with words.
Date limits results to a day or a range.
Member keeps conversations that include that person, and messages that person sent.
Attachments is Has attachments or No attachments.
Conversation type is DMs, Groups, Feeds, or any mix of those.
Clear a filter to widen the results again. Member choices come from people who already share a conversation with you.
What you are notified about
A new message can reach you in the app and on your phone. A muted conversation stays quiet unless you are mentioned.
When a message arrives and you are in Base Assist, a banner shows the sender, the conversation, and a short preview. Open it to go to that message, or dismiss it.
On your phone, the notification uses the conversation as the title and the sender plus a short preview as the text. The notification includes a reply field, so you can answer without opening the app.
You are not notified about a message you sent. You are not notified about an ordinary message in a conversation you muted.
A mention still comes through when the conversation is muted. That includes a mention of you by name, a group you belong to, @everyone, and @here when you are online.
Mute one conversation
Mute applies to you only.
Open the conversation, then Details. Turn Notifications off. The row says Muted, and the note under it says mentions still notify you.
Turn it back on when you want banners for every new message. Muting does not hide the conversation, mark it read, or change it for anyone else.
Unread counts
Opening a conversation marks it read.
A count on a conversation is the number of messages you have not opened. The DMs, Groups, and Feeds tabs add up the unread messages in that kind of conversation.
Open the conversation and the count clears, including when you open it from a notification or from search.
